Tantalum capacitors are electro-chemical capacitors with an anode made from the metal Tantalum in a sputtered oxide layer of the dielectric. A solid manganese dioxide electrolyte is deposited on the dielectric and serves as the cathode side of the capacitor with a very thin separator placed between the dielectric layer and the manganese dioxide electrolyte. The use of tantalum to make capacitors was revolutionary at the time, offering significantly higher values of capacitance in a much compact and lightweight unit than any other capacitor type on the market. They are used to store electrical energy like early aluminum electrolytic capacitors, tantalum capacitors are now used in the consumer, industrial, and military markets.

The 150D105X0035A2B is an example of an axial-leaded, molded-in, miniaturized, cylindrical, SMD Tantalum capacitor with working voltage of 35V and capacitance of 0.1μF.
