Jumper Wires

Jumper wires, also known as jumper cables, are insulated electrical wires used to jump small electrical currents from one point to another. They are an essential tool for any electronics assembly project and are ideal for prototyping and short runs of printed circuit boards (PCBs). In many cases, jumper wires are used to debug connections between parts or to reprogram EEPROMs.

Jumper wires typically have a few key components: an insulated copper or aluminum wire, a connector on each side, and a crimpable port for the connector. Depending on the manufacturer, the connector can be a 2.54mm pitch pin header plug, a spring terminal block, or a SIP header.

Jumper wires are designed to be plugged and unplugged from a circuit multiple times with ease. To ensure that the connection is secure, jumper wires are typically inserted into the circuit board via soldering.

Pre-Crimped Leads

Pre-crimped leads are a type of electrical lead used to connect and cut wiring connections. Unlike most types of insulated wires, pre-crimped leads already have a crimped connector or terminal attached to them. This makes them extremely convenient for wiring jobs, saving time and hassle.

Pre-crimped leads are typically constructed using high quality flexible copper conductors, an insulation layer and a terminal or connector. The insulation layer can be made from PVC, nylon or nylon monocord. The terminal or connector can be a barrel, v-hook, sprusa or ring.

Pre-crimped leads are ideal for joining small gauge wires together, creating quick-fit solutions for components that need to be wired into a circuit board or an electrical switch box. They are also often used for testing purposes, such as testing electrical continuity between two points or verifying the correct wiring of a component.
