The 1N1202B is a high speed rectifier diode from the 1N range of diodes produced by WEIER. It has a forward voltage drop of 1.2V and a low leakage current of 0.1mA. It is widely used in various applications due to its high switching speed, low power losses and good efficiency. The 1N1202B is used in applications where fast switching is required and where the minimum voltage drop is not a priority.
Working principle:
The 1N1202B diode works on the principle of PN junction. A PN junction is formed by joining a negatively charged p-type semiconductor and a positively charged n-type semiconductor together. When a forward bias voltage is applied across the PN junction, majority carriers (holes for p-type and electrons for n-type) flow from p-type to n-type and create a depletion region at the junction. This is known as forward biasing, and causes the diode to conduct in one direction only, allowing current to flow from the anode to the cathode. When a reverse bias voltage is applied, majority carriers will be moving in the opposite direction and no current will flow.
Application field:
The 1N1202B diode finds numerous applications in modern day electronics.It is used in circuit designs that require high speed switching, such as in buzzers and automotive applications. It is also used in AC/DC adapter circuits to protect delicate electronic components from voltage spikes or surges. It can be used in AC voltage rectification circuits, to reduce the AC voltage to DC voltage in televisions, computers, audio amplifiers, and other electronic devices. It is also used in power supplies, motor drives, inverters, UPS systems and communication systems. The 1N1202B is suitable for applications where high forward voltage drop is not a priority.
