Diodes are electronic components which allow current to flow in one direction only, and are commonly used in many different applications, such as radio receivers and digital circuits. The 1N4005-N-2-1-BP is a very popular single rectifier diode, usually used for high frequency applications such as switching power supplies, high voltage rectification and motor control.

A 1N4005-N-2-1-BP diode is made up of two semi-conducting material layers. The first layer is the P-type (positive) layer, which is an insulating material such as silicon dioxide or silicon nitride.
