The working principle behind the 1N4473US is relatively straightforward. As a zener diode, it is designed to regulate voltage and constructed with a heavily doped p-n junction. This allows it to have a high voltage breakdown typically greater than 7.5 volts in order to protect against overloads. The protective element of the device is further enhanced with its ability to have a high reverse breakdown voltage.
