1N4475 Application Field

1N4475 Zener diodes are used in numerous applications. It is most commonly used in low-voltage, low-power circuits, such as DC power supplies or voltage regulation circuits. It can also be used for stabilization of output voltages, logic switching, reference potentials, and clamping of high-voltage pulses.

In AC-DC conversion circuit, 1N4475 Zener diodes are used to regulate the high-voltage AC input. They are also used in DC-DC converters. The 1N4475 is used in DC switching power supplies, cell phone power supplies, and power supply designs.

1N4475 Working Principle

1N4475 Zener diodes are designed to conduct current in reverse bias, when forward bias. That is, when its anode is connected to a more positive voltage than its cathode. The Zener diode\'s conduction of current in reverse bias is precisely controlled. It has a reverse voltage breakdown voltage value at which it starts conducting current.

The 1N4475 Zener diode starts conducting current when the applied reverse voltage exceeds its threshold breakdown voltage. Once the reverse bias voltage reaches its breakdown voltage, a small amount of current is conducted by the diode, typically about 5 to 15mA for a 1N4475 diode. This current is known as the Zener current.

The voltage across the diode remains relatively constant despite the changes in the reverse voltage that can occur when the external current changes. This means the current remains almost constant and is maintained at a steady value. This phenomena is known as the Zener effect or the Zener breakdown.

The 1N4475 Zener diode has a power rating of 350 mW, while the operating temperature range is -55°C to +125°C. Due to its small size and wide temperature range, the 1N4475 Zener diode is an ideal choice for a host of applications, from voltage regulation to voltage clamping.
