1N5302UR-1 Application Field and Working Principle

The 1N5302UR-1 diode is part of the Single Rectifier diodes family. This family is composed of various types of diodes and mainly characterized by their structure and use of silicon material to form the diode.

1N5302UR-1 diodes are single silicon rectifiers with a maximum steady-state current of 1.3A. These devices are mainly used in auto/truck/trailer applications. They are often used in circuits when reverse blocking is needed and in high voltage AC circuits.

Working Principle

A single rectifier diode is a two-terminal component with a characteristic semiconductor p-n junction. The 1N5302UR-1 employs a single silicon rectifier. When the anode is more positive than the cathode, it permits current to flow, referred to as forward-bias conduction. The diode conducts in this state. When the anode is more negative than the cathode, it blocks current flow and is in reverse-bias breakdown. This diode can block up to 5V in reverse bias.

In forward-bias state, 1N5302UR-1 diodes can conduct up to 1.3A of current. The total recovery time is typically less than 1.2μs, depending on the device’s characteristics. Considering the steady-state current-voltage behavior, these diodes have turn-on resistance of less than 0.85V and the maximum reverse recovery time is 2μs.

Applications

Amongst the most common applications is the protection of electrical components from reversed voltages. These single silicon rectifiers are also used in conjunction with AC circuits, where they effectively block the flow of electricity in reverse biasing without hiding the static current passing through the circuit.

These diodes also offer advantages in many other high voltage applications, such as in power switches, motor controllers, and lighting systems. The high temperature rating of the 1N5302UR-1 further makes it suitable for use in systems where frequent current spikes generate a considerable amount of heat.
