The 1N5337E3/TR13 is a single Zener diode component which belongs to the series of diodes. A diode is an electronic component that serves as a “one-way gate” for electrical current. It consists of two electrodes, an Anode and a Cathode. Depending on the direction of current flow, the diode will either allow forward current to flow or block reverse current. The diode is a two terminal electronic component which permits current to flow in its forward bias direction and provides a low resistance to current in the forward bias direction, whereas it does not allow current to flow in the reverse direction and provides a high resistance to current in the reverse bias directions.Zener diode is a special type of diode which will allow current to pass in both forward as well as reverse direction, depending on the applied voltage across the terminals. It is also known as ‘avalanche diode’ or ‘breakdown diode’. A Zener diode will usually start to allow a reverse current to flow when the voltage across its terminals reaches a specific threshold value, called the ‘Zener Voltage’. This Zener Voltage is the breakdown voltage of the diode and is typically around 2-6V.The 1N5357E3/TR13 is a single Zener diode which is capable of continuous reverse power dissipation of 1W. It has aZener Voltage range of 3.3 – 3.6V, a Maximum Zener impedance of 4.0 ohms at Izt, a Zener Current of 2.30 mA and a Maximum Reverse Standoff Voltage of 5.0V. The 1N5357E3/TR13Zener diode can be used in a variety of applications including voltage regulator circuits, surge protectors, clamping circuits and overvoltage protection devices.When a voltage is applied across a Zener diode, it will behave as a normal diode, allowing a very small current to flow through and blocking any reverse current. When the applied voltage reaches the Zener Voltage threshold, the Zener diode will allow a large current to flow through it in the reverse direction. This reversed current can be used for various applications such as voltage regulation, current limiting, overvoltage protection and surge protection.When a voltage higher than the Zener Voltage is applied across the terminals of a Zener diode, it is said that the diode is in its breakdown region operating in avalanche mode. In this mode, current starts to flow in the reverse direction and the diode acts as a variable resistor. This variable resistor creates a voltage drop across the Zener diode and maintains the applied voltage at the Zener Voltage, which is much lower than the applied voltage. This phenomenon is known as Zener Voltage Regulation, which can be used for various applications such as voltage regulator circuits.A Zener diode can also be used as a surge protection device. When a surge is applied to the Zener diode, the voltage across the terminals rises above the Zener Voltage and the Zener diode will enter its breakdown region and the variable resistor effect of the diode will limit the amount of current flowing through it and prevent excess voltage from reaching the circuit.The 1N5357E3/TR13 is a reliable, high quality single Zener diode component that is ideal for a variety of applications such as voltage regulation, current limiting, surge protection and overvoltage protection.
