1N5391 is a single rectifier diode designed for general purpose applications. It is designed for use in bridge rectifiers, voltage multipliers, and rectifier circuits in switching power supply, radio and audio frequency circuits. 1N5391 can pass current up to 1.0A while operating at rates up to 1.0 MHz. This diode is also very efficient at blocking voltage, maintaining power loss at 1mW per device in many cases.
The maximum peak reverse voltage of a 1N5391 is 14V. Under normal application it can operate with reverse voltages as low as 6V. The maximum forward voltage drop for a 1N5391 is 0.8V for a current of 0.3A and 2.2V for a current of 1.0A. Another important part of its electrical properties is junction capacitance which is only 12.5pF for a reverse voltage of 10V.
1N5391 is typically used in bridge rectifier circuits. This type of circuit uses four diodes to provide full-wave rectification for both AC and pulsed DC inputs. During the negative or positive cycle of the AC input, two of the diodes conduct, while the other two are turned off. When the positive cycle occurs, the two remaining diodes allow current to flow while the first two ones are turned off. This type of current control is achieved by the junction capacitance of the diodes. Because of its low junction capacitance, the 1N5391 can provide very efficient rectification at higher frequencies.
1N5391 can also be used in other applications such as voltage multipliers, voltage regulators, and current limiting. It is also used in switching power supplies.
