1N5822-E3/54 is one of the common single rectifier diodes available in the market to its consumers. The working principle behind this single rectifier diode is based on the fact that it contains two channels of electrons - one for conduction of electrons in one direction and the other for conduction in the opposite direction. It works as an electronic gate, in which the electrons can pass through only one channel - the channel maintained by the applied voltage. This does not happen immediately; however, after the initial time delay of a few nanoseconds. The electrons coming in through a source (that is, a power supply or a peripheral circuit) pass through the lower resistance channel, while the electrons coming out of the drain go through the higher resistance channel.
1N5822-E3/54 has a silicon-controlled switch construction that allows it to handle very large output voltages. The maximum output voltage is 1000V DC and the maximum rated current is 2A. The gate-to-source voltage, or the voltage applied across the gate and source of the device, must not exceed 10V DC. Its temperature range is -40 to +125°C and its leakage current is 0.05mA at 25°C. Its breakdown voltage is 850V and its turn-on time is 1 to 6 us.
