The 1N5914A is a single Zener diode designed to regulate voltage in a wide range of applications. Used primarily in power supplies, the diode provides excellent power dissipation and stable voltage regulation under varying loads.
The 1N5914A operates similarly to other Zener diodes, in that it allows current to pass through it in either direction, but only in one direction for Zener regulation. The 1N5914A junction has a breakdown voltage of 4.7V, and is designed to produce a regulated voltage in the range of 4.7V to 5.2V.
When not connected to an external voltage source, the 1N5914A diode is effectively open, allowing no current to flow.
