This point is known as the ‘breakdown voltage’ or the Vz. When the voltage applied to the diode is greater than the breakdown voltage, current will start to flow and the forward bias of the diode is achieved.This provides the functionality of the 1N5925BUR-1 as a voltage regulator. When a voltage higher than the breakdown voltage of the diode is applied, the electric field between the anode and the cathode decreases and the current is limited.
