Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT),are components used in the distribution and transmission line systems. Working Principle

When the transient voltage spike is at its highest point, the spark gap can reach temperatures as high as 10,000 Kelvin. This will then be followed by an inverse current that will gradually decrease, until the voltage reaches zero again. This ensures that the circuits of the attached equipment are not damaged by the surge or transient.
