RF interference (RFI) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) can be two of the most irritating and troublesome things to have to deal with. These two types of interference can cause various problems, such as buzzing in audio equipment, poor reception of television and radio broadcasts, garbled wireless communications, and even total data loss. Fortunately, there are a few relatively easy and straightforward ways of shielding and absorbing materials that can help to prevent these types of interference and are especially useful for portable electronic equipment.

The first thing to consider when looking at shielding and absorbing materials for RFI and EMI is the type of material you will be using. The most common materials used to shield and absorb these types of interferences are metals and their alloys. Metals such as copper, nickel, and aluminum are the most common and effective materials for shielding and absorbing RF and EMI. As the name implies, these materials are able to absorb the energy from RF and EMI waves and thus reduce the amount of interference they cause.
