Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are used for energy storage, filter, coupling, damping, etc.in various electronic devices. 224CKR050M is one of these capacitors. It belongs to a class of axial-leaded, cylindrical aluminum electrolytic capacitors that feature radial leaded aluminum case, in which polar material is contained.

224CKR050M is designed primarily for use in audio-frequency circuits in which low cost and compact size are most important. It consists of an aluminum foil anode, a paper separator and soft aluminum cathode foil. The anode of 224CKR050M is covered with an electrolyte-impregnated paper. The electrolyte is a solution of an organic solvent mixed with a compound containing boric acid.

The rated capacitance of 224CKR050M ranges from 0.47uF to 470uF, with high tolerance of +/-20%. Its most common applications include filtering, tuning, timing, bypassing and coupling. For better audio frequency performance, a tight tolerance of +/-10% is also available in 224CKR050M.

In addition to its audio applications, 224CKR050M is also suitable for applications requiring higher voltage ratings, including load-position regulation, frequency control, smoothing power of switching, and noise suppression.

224CKR050M capacitors are known for their low ESR (equivalent series resistance) and high ripple current. Their anodic layers exhibit excellent thermal stability and high stability in long-term usage; however, their life expectancy will be reduced if they are exposed to high temperatures for an extended period.

Working Principle: 224CKR050M works by storing electrical charge between two electrodes surrounded by an electrically conductive medium, called electrolyte. When the capacitor is placed in a circuit, electrons flow from the negative anode to the positive cathode. This flow of electrons enables energy to be stored in the capacitors. Since aluminum electrolytic capacitors feature large capacitances, they are often used in applications that require storing a large amount of charge.

The stored energy is then released when the voltage across the capacitor drops below its rated value. This dissipates energy to the load, creating the necessary power for operating the circuit. The voltage and current waveforms created across the capacitor during its charging and discharging cycles are known as ripple current and voltage, respectively. As long as the capacitor remains within its rated parameters, it should have a long, trouble-free life.
