2EZ190D/TR8 application field and working principle

The 2EZ190D/TR8 is a Zener diode commonly used in various applications including voltage regulation, surge protection, and circuit limiting. It can be used as a voltage reference and can stabilize the output voltage from a device, as well as provide a reliable breakdown voltage in a circuit and protect it from damaging surge conditions.

The 2EZ190D/TR8 is a single diode available in a variety of packages, including SOD-323, SOD-523, SOT-23, and SOT-89. It has a reverse breakdown voltage of 8 V and is capable of handling a maximum current of 200 mA.

The 2EZ190D/TR8 works on the principle of avalanche breakdown. In this phenomenon, when the reverse voltage applied across the diode is greater than the reverse breakdown voltage of the diode, the electrons experience a sudden increase in velocity and emit large amounts of energy. This energy, in turn, generates more electrons, causing a sudden increase in current.

In voltage regulation applications, the 2EZ190D/TR8 can be connected in parallel with a resistor in order to keep the output voltage at a certain level, regardless of the input voltage variations. This is because the amount of current passing through the diode will remain constant when the voltage across it is constant.

In surge protection applications, the 2EZ190D/TR8 can be used to protect the circuit against voltage spikes. Connecting the diode in reverse polarity makes it act as a back-to-back clamp.
