Tantalum - Polymer Capacitors are a type of electrolytic capacitor that has been used for various applications because of its very attractive electrical properties, most notably its low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and low DCL (Dielectric Constant Loss) values. The 2R5TPG220M is a Polymer Tantalum capacitors that are specifically designed for applications requiring high power density and large operating temperature ranges. 2R5TPG220M Application Field

2R5TPG220M Working Principle

Unlike standard electrolytic capacitors, 2R5TPG220M Tantalum - Polymer Capacitors use a solid polymer electrolyte instead of a liquid one. This creates a highly reliable and stable capacitor that offers a low ESR, low self-heating and a large capacitance per unit volume. The solid electrolyte is made out of a polymer material that is able to perform the two necessary roles of an electrolyte, which is to provide a low resistance path for charge carriers, and to allow the capacitor to hold a static charge.

The capacitor also has an anode and a dielectric that can work together to determine the capacitance value. There are two types of capacitors, one with a PEN (Polyethylene Naphthalate) dielectric and the other with an X7R dielectric. PEN has a higher voltage rating and a lower leakage current, while X7R has a higher capacitance and a higher temperature range. The 2R5TPG220M is equipped with an X7R dielectric.

Due to the organic nature of polymer electrolytes, this type of capacitors produces lower levels of noise than their aluminum electrolytic counterparts, making them ideal for applications requiring clean and smooth power conversion. They are less prone to leakage, withstand higher ripple currents, and offer a high tolerance for changes in temperature and humidity in the operating environment. This makes them suitable for high power applications.
