2R5TPU47MSI Application Field and Working Principle

Tantalum-polymer capacitors are becoming one of the most popular surface-mount capacitor components used in power management and related applications. Such capacitors often bear the designation 2R5TPU47MSI, which stands for two rectangular terminals and five terminal numbering code, with physical dimensions of 4.7 mm and a 0.3 mm terminal space.

2R5TPU47MSI capacitors are generally used for bypass, filtering and in high frequency circuits to reduce the voltage regulation. This gives them multiple application fields, such as power electronics, communications, computer, information and control systems, automotive electronics and medical equipment. The device also comes in numerous other sizes and types, so it can fit and function in virtually any environment.

2R5TPU47MSI capacitor’s principle works similar to that of traditional electrolytic capacitors and has lower effective impdance, making them considerably more efficient. Their capacitance rating is determined by their physical size and the nature of the dielectric material they are made of, typically ranging from 10μF to 1000μF at 6.3V to 15V DC, respectively.

The main difference between a 2R5TPU47MSI capacitor and other similar capacitors lies in the dielectric layer. Instead of a standard electrolyte, the dielectric layer is composed of conductive polymer sheets, extruded and constructed in an organic and organic/inorganic material sandwich-type construction.
