Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are used in a variety of applications such as motor control, electronic media, medical instruments, and power generation and distribution. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are constructed with two aluminum foil electrodes, a layer of insulating material, and a spacer. The liquid electrolyte serves as an ion conductor between the electrodes. The combination of materials and process creates a large storage capacity in a small package.

A typical aluminum electrolytic capacitor consists of a cylindrical aluminum oxide dielectric that is sandwiched between two aluminum electrodes. The aluminum electrodes are etched with a thin layer of aluminum oxide which acts as the dielectric. The space between the two electrodes is filled with an electrolyte solution. The electrolyte is made up of an organic solvent, a cationically charged ion, and nitrates of the metal cations.

The 400USC100MEFCSN20X30 is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor. It uses an electrolytic layer formed by an anodized aluminum oxide layer between two aluminum electrodes.
