Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, also known as Al-Elecs, are passive electronic components that most commonly include two aluminum foils, with a thin strip of non-conductive paper in between. The paper is usually impregnated with an electrolyte, usually a mixture of water and a conductive salt. This type of capacitor has two main ends, called the anode and the cathode, on one end of the foil, and two terminal pins on the other side. Depending on their application, aluminum electrolytic capacitors can have capacitance values in the nanofarad to the thousandths of a Farad range, and can come in both surface mount and through hole forms, for added design flexibility.

477RZM010M Application Field and Working Principle

The 477RZM010M aluminum electrolytic capacitors are of a long-life design, made of polypropylene dielectric material and have an extended temperature range for increased performance and longevity. These capacitors are well-suited for motors and transformers, as they have high-rated ripple currents with a very low ESR or Equivalent Series Resistance. This is also what makes them ideal for power supply and line filter applications. Generally speaking, they are used in protective circuits, frequency selective circuits, decoupling circuits and ripple filters.

In terms of operation, 477RZM010M aluminum electrolytic capacitors function almost identically to any other type of capacitor. When voltage is applied to the Anode and Cathode sides of the capacitor, an electrical field forms within the dielectric material. This then causes the “Capacitance” effect, which is the result of the accumulation of electric charge.
