Working Principle

The 5KP26-E3/54 device exhibits a varistor characteristic which is a Nonlinear-Resistance(NLR) response to a changing voltage. In applications where relatively high reverse-voltage surges are expected, this device provides superior performance thanks to its dual-bite mechanism, which includes both avalanche breakdown and Zener breakdown. The avalanche breakdown of the diode junction portion of the device is triggered when the field intensity across the junction raises beyond a certain point. The Zener diode junction portion of the device is triggered when the zener voltage reaches a certain level.The dual-bite mechanism of the 5KP26-E3/54 ensures that the transient surge voltage is sharply clamped and diverted away from the protected circuit and equipment. This protects the sensitive components from any damage due to the transient surge. Additionally, the device features a wide operating temperature range of -55°C to+125°C, and is RoHS compliant.
