Working Principle

The 5KP51A-E3/54 uses a PN-junction structure and is protected from transients through the contact of the anode to the protector IC which is located close to the P-gate electrode for surge immunity along a short path. The diode is designed with an additional contact to the protector IC which breaks the circuit when the voltage exceeds the reverse-breakdown voltage threshold and thus protects the circuit from being over-stressed.

The 5KP51A-E3/54 is capable of handling high levels of ESD, spikes, surges, and other transients by clamping the voltage to the break down level and absorb the energy of the transient. It is also capable of operating in high temperature environments as it is rated to operate from -55˚C to +125˚C.
