Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors: 678D228M025FV3D application field and working principle
Aluminium electrolytic capacitors are electrolytic capacitors which use aluminum foils of anodes, integrated with barrier layers of oxide films, as the the cathode of the capacitor with an electrolyte of commonly water or liquid organic solvent. In this option, the oxide film acts as the dielectric of the capacitor which is formed using the polarization of anodization. When a voltage is applied to an aluminum capacitor, an electric field forms between the two and induces the anode oxide film to recover. The polarized oxide film is the key to the high capacitance of an aluminum capacitor.

Specifically, this series of capacitor features: polarized electrolytic capacitors, non-solid electrolyte, voltage range form 16V to 400V, capacitance range from 1.5µF to 47µF, with operating temperature range from 10 to 70℃, and industrial standard size of 6.8 mm dia x 28.0 mm L.

Coming to the working principle of aluminum electrolytic capacitors, when a voltage is applied between the two electrodes, the electrical field will rid the anode of its oxide layer which had been deposited during its anodization. Subsequently, the electric field forces the electrolyte between the two electrodes which produces electric double-layer around the anode. Following this, a current will pass through the plates only when positive or negative charges accumulate on both sides. This eventually increases the capacitance and hence, works as a capacitor.
Contrary to other capacitors such as ceramic or paper capacitors, aluminum electrolytic capacitors have certain limits in regards to the voltage, capacitance, temperature, and their withstand, and due to their features, these capacitors generally have a very large capacitance and find their application in various power and other electronic equipment.
