Working Principle
The 74FST3400QSR provides several transistors in a single package for controlling basic switching and signal routing operations. It contains a switch array of up to sixteen 2-bit or four 4-bit multiplexers which are best suited for data transfers requiring high switching speed with low fanout. The device operates in two extreme settings, logic high(1) or logic low(0). According to the value of the control signal, the device switches the output line to either extreme value.
To achieve the desired output, the control port aids in the interpretation of the input signals. This port carries the switching instructions which are converted through an internal decoder. The decoder maps the values of the control port to the corresponding output terminal by activating the transistors. Depending on the mode of operation, the transistors activate either the output (for data transfer) or the control line (to make latching operations). This action is repeated until all the output channels are filled with the control instruction.
Finally, when the last instruction is delivered, the output line connected to the control port is activated and the data is stored in the input channel. This data can then be readout whenever needed, thereby making the device a non-volatile or latching device.
