Pneumatics

Pneumatics is a form of technology which uses compressed air, rather than electricity, to power machines. The basic principle behind pneumatics is to produce a signal using compressed air in order to control the movement of a machine. This is achieved by either opening or closing a valve, or by varying the air pressure in the system.

In pneumatic systems, the air is compressed to a certain pressure using a compressor, before being distributed to the components of the system. The compressed air is then used to actuate pneumatic cylinders which move the components of the system. For example, an industrial robot might use a pneumatic cylinder and valve system to manipulate its arm.

Hydraulics

Hydraulics is a form of technology which uses pressurized liquids to transfer force. The basic principle behind hydraulics is to apply pressure to a piston in order to generate a force. This force is then transferred to various components of the system using a series of pipelines and valves.

In hydraulic systems, the pressurized liquid is generated using a hydraulic pump, before being distributed to the components of the system. This pressurized liquid is then used to actuate hydraulic cylinders which move the components of the system. For example, an industrial crane might use a hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic motor and valve system to manipulate its arm.
