93LC46B-E/ST is a 1 K bit Electrically Erasable PROM (EEPROM) family of device with a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). It is a device that provides a user with a cost effective, reliable and fast data storage solution. It is widely used in applications that require durable storage of code and data, such as automotive, industrial, and medical applications.

The 93LC46B-E/ST is compatible with the SPI standard and implements a three-wire serial protocol which enables full duplex data transfer with a clock rate up to 10 MHz. This device is capable of reading and writing one byte of data at a time and is organized as 16 pages of 64 x 8 bits. The device is designed to withstand up to 10kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) and operating temperature range from +25°C to +125°C.

This device is a non-volatile Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). In contrast to volatile memories where the data is lost when a power supply is disconnected, EEPROM users will retain the stored data when the power is switched off. To make the memory durable, bits are organized in 8 x 64 byte blocks, which supports reliable cyclic write operations. Typical applications of EEPROMs include automotive and industrial uses, programmable control and peripherals memory.

The working principle of the 93LC46B-E/ST is based on two operations, Read and Write. In the READ operation, data is read by the serial interface on a rising edge of clock. The device is selected by applying a low logic level to the Chip Select (CS) pin. The address of the data to be read is latched on the 8th clock pulse, the data can then be read from the data output (DO) pin on the 16th clock pulse. When the Chip Select (CS) is returned to the high logic state, the device is deselected and the next data read operation will be performed.

The WRITE operation begins by making the Chip Select (CS) pin low. After the 8th clock pulse, the data is then latched into a write buffer which is then written to the memory cell on the 16th clock cycle. After completion of the write cycle, the chip select is then returned to a high logic level. The device can than be deselected, and the next write cycle will be performed.

The 93LC46B-E/ST is a versatile memory device used in various applications such as to store device program codes, diagnostic data, user settings and configurations. It is usually used in automotive and industrial systems, programmable control, and other peripherals. The device is designed for prolonged usage and its memory cell is designed to endure up to 10kV electrostatic discharge (ESD), and its temperature operating range is from +25°C to +125°C.
