93LC56CXT-E/SN is a 512-bit serial EEPROM manufactured by Atmel Corporation. It is particularly designed for low-volume applications and is used for externally stored non-volatile memory.

The 93LC56CXT-E/SN is organized as 5000 words of 8 bits. It is an 8-pin device that features a low-voltage (2.5V) design and a low operating current (1mA typical). The device also includes an integrated 8-bit address counter that allows the user to sequentially read out data without the need for an external address pointer.

Working Principle:

The 93LC56CXT-E/SN device is written and read by a three-wire serial bus. The bus consists of a clock input (SCK) and a serial data input/output (SI/O). A Low level on the chip select (CS) activates the device and all operations are controlled by the serial clock.

The device is written and read in a data-independent format - data is presented to or retrieved from the device in a serial manner, with each bit serially shifted into or out of the device. To initiate a write cycle, the address and data must be loaded into the device followed by a write cycle (START) command. To initiate a read cycle, the device must receive a write cycle command followed by an address load which points to the starting address, and then the read (START) command.

The device also supports the write (WREN) and read (WRDI) enable/disable commands. The read enable and read disable commands allow the user to selectively enable or disable all read operations.

Data is read from the 93LC56CXT-E/SN by applying a low level to the chip select (CS) input and supplying a logical 1 to the write enable (WREN) input, providing data to the data input (SI) line, and then issuing a read (START) command. The data is then read in a serial fashion one bit at a time from the data output (SO) line, with the serial clock (SCK) controlling the read operation.

In order to write data to the device, the Device Address must be loaded, followed by the data to be written, and ended with a Write Cycle (START) command. After each write or read cycle the device resumes normal operation.

The 93LC56CXT-E/SN also provides an additional RDY/BUSY (READY/BUSY) output to indicate the device\'s readiness to accept a read/write operation. The RDY/BUSY output is utilized to reduce the internal access time of the device and provides the user with information on the device\'s operation.
