Working Principle

The inductive proximity sensor 9964-1800 is composed of a coil and an electronic circuit. The coil can generate and receive an electromagnetic ac signal that will react with metal objects and detect their presence. When a metal object approaches the sensing surface of the inductive proximity sensor, the coil generates an electromagnetic field. The metal object interacts with this field and a change of the induced current is detected by the electronic circuit which is then converted into an output signal. This signal can then be used as an input to a system to trigger an action, such as stopping a machine or activating a light.
