The working principle of the A1383EUA-T is based on two linear sensing elements, which are implemented with an Hall effect, which means it works by determining the change of magnetic field. It detects the presence or absence of a magnetic field and outputs a digital signal when the change of the magnetic field strength is beyond a certain threshold. The Hall effect sensing part is implemented with a pair of NPN transistors, one for each linear sensing element.
When a change in magnetic field, above a certain threshold, is detected, one of the two transistors will be activated, causing the signal output to be switched high or low. This results in a logic one or zero being sent out, depending on the change of magnetic field.
The output of the Hall effect element is amplified by an LMV351 level shifter, so the signal can be read easily. This output is connected to a Weidmuller IDC connector, which is designed for selecting the direction. On powering the device, the device detects whether the magnet is closer or farther away from the linear sensors, and then produces a signal that indicates the direction. So the same device can detect two directions, up and down, or left and right, depending on the configuration.
The A1383EUA-T can be used in any application that requires a linear sensing of direction or distance.
