1. Describe
New applications for linear output Hall-effect sensors such as displacement and angular position require higher accuracy and smaller package size. Allegro A1388 and A1389 Linear Hall-Effect Sensor ICs are designed to meet both of these requirements. These temperature stable devices are available in surface mount and through hole packages. The accuracy of each device is improved through end-of-line optimization. Each device features non-volatile memory to optimize device sensitivity and quiescent voltage output (QVO: Magnetic Field Free Output) for a given application or circuit. This optimized performance of the A1388 and A1389 is maintained over the entire operating temperature range by programming the QVO's sensitivity and temperature coefficient during Allegro end-of-line testing. These ratiometric Hall-effect sensor ICs provide a voltage output magnetic field proportional to the applied voltage. The quiescent voltage output is regulated to approximately 50% of the supply voltage. The characteristics of these linear devices make them ideal for automotive and industrial applications requiring high precision, and they operate over an extended temperature range of –40°C to 150°C. Each BiCMOS monolithic circuit integrates a Hall element, the temperature compensation circuit reduces the sensitivity drift inherent in the Hall element, and the small signal has high gain

boot time. When the power supply rises to its operating voltage, the device output needs a finite amount of time to react to the incoming magnetic field. The power-on time, tPO, is defined as the time required for the output voltage to begin responding to an applied magnetic field after the power supply reaches its minimum specified operating voltage, VCC(min). Delayed clamping. A large magnetic input step size can cause the clamp to exceed its steady-state value. The clamp delay, tCLP, is defined as the time it takes for the output voltage to settle to within 1% of its steady-state value after initially passing through its steady-state voltage. Quiescent voltage output. In the quiescent state (no significant magnetic field: B = 0 G), the ratio of output VOUT(Q) to supply voltage VCC is constant over the entire operating range of VCC and operating ambient temperature TA.
