A170RM Working Principle

During Peak Positive, the anode is positive and the cathode is negative, and the current flows in the forward direction. Then, during Valley Negative, the anode is negative and the cathode is positive, and the current flow is reverse. This cycle repeats until the current is changed into a unidirectional flow.

When the diode is in the reverse-biased position, the junction of the P and N-type sections acts as a barrier and prevents the current from passing through the diode. Once the forward current reaches the peak negative level, the barrier breaks and the current starts to flow in a single direction. To simplify, the A170RM rectifier module works on the ‘on’ or ‘off’ principle, where it blocks the current whenever it is in one of the bias conditions (reverse or peak negative) and allows the current to flow whenever it is in the other bias condition (peak positive or valley negative).
