A6818SEP-T is a Power Distribution Switches and Load Drivers belonging to Power Management IC (PMIC). It provides a robust, low-capacity DC current load switch circuit in the system, which can overcome the current overload or short circuit and alleviate the thermal overload or short circuit caused by overcurrent.The A6818SEP-T is a current-limiting-type low-side switch with built in protection functions. It is designed to drive capacitive and resistive loads and may be switched from an externally generated voltage or logic-level control signal. The switch provides instantaneous current limiting that is guaranteed to be within user-defined limits. Internal protection includes ESD, over-voltage protection, inrush current limiting, and dynamic current limiting.In terms of the application field, A6818SEP-T is especially applicable for a variety of systems and sub-systems in automotive and communication, such as uninterruptible power supply, point of load (PoL) voltage regulators, step-down power supplies, and power distribution in network applications.At the same time, in terms of working principle, the main feature of A6818SEP-T is that it is a low on-resistance (RDSON), low leakage current, low voltage logic-level compatible, fast response, low current consumption and low EMI switch, which has been designed to operate from a wide range of voltages and temperatures.A6818SEP-T is a low voltage power switch with a lower on resistance than traditional MOSFETs. It has a hysteric temperature protection which can avoid high-temperature damages to MOSFETs or systems. A6818SEP-T can protect a load from over-current and over-voltage conditions, while maintaining a low on-resistance load path.When it comes to its working principle, A6818SEP-T can be either enabled or disabled by a logic-level input voltage. When it is enabled, the device will conduct current under normal conditions and once it goes below the defined limiting threshold, the device will limit the current. When current is limited, the output voltage of the device will still remain the same, but the device will stop conduction above the limiting threshold.The current limit protection offered by A6818SEP-T minimizes the risks due to a large amount of current and ensures a controlled safety shutdown. The integrated over-voltage protection provided by A6818SEP-T will also be enabled for abnormal over-voltage occurrences, thus eliminating the need for additional external thermal protection.In addition, A6818SEP-T is capable of withstanding high electrostatic discharge (ESD) of up to ±6000V and supports extensive thermal protection against overload or short circuit. The device also integrates a thermal sensing diode that monitors ambient temperature of the load.To conclude, A6818SEP-T is an effective and reliable switch device suitable for powering a wide range of systems and applications.
