EMI/RFI filters, or simply filters, are electronic components used in electronic circuits to attenuate or eliminate undesired frequencies. One type of filter is the LC filter, short for inductance/capacitance filter. LC filters use capacitors and/or inductors to filter out unwanted frequencies. RC filter networks are another type of filter. RC filters are composed of resistors and capacitors, and they are designed to attenuate or eliminate high frequency ranges.
The ACH32C-103-TL001 is an LC/RC type EMI/RFI filter we designed for industrial settings. Its use of two alternating layers containing both inductors and capacitors allows for broad-spectrum attenuation of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) within an operating frequency range up to 250 MHz. It is also designed with an overmolded molded plastic housing to increase the filter’s durability and reliability. This makes the filter ideal for industrial applications such as power supply converters, inverters, in-vehicle power systems, factory automation equipment, and electric vehicle control units.
The working principle of this filter is based on the principle of impedance matching. Electronic signals or waves, both radiated and conducted, typically pass through more easily as their frequency approaches zero. Therefore, in order to attenuate unwanted frequencies, impedance must be improved at the points where it matches the desired frequencies. This is done through using capacitors and resistors in the two (2) alternating layers of the filter, allowing the desired frequencies to pass while attenuating undesired frequencies.
The combination of inductors and capacitors in the ACH32C-103-TL001 filter form a parallel resonant circuit in each of the two (2) alternating layers. When the incoming signal’s frequency equals the resonant frequency of one of the layers, attenuation of the unwanted signal is maximized. As the frequency of the incoming signal continues to increase or decrease, the signal is attenuated by the inductors and capacitors in the filter, resulting in a gradual decrease in the unwanted signal.
The ACH32C-103-TL001 filter is designed to attenuate EMI/RFI noise at multiple frequency bands, so it is well-suited for applications with high levels of electro-magnetic and radio frequency interference. This filter is also designed with an overmolded plastic housing to increase its durability and reliability, and it is suitable for use in industrial settings such as power supply converters, inverters, in-vehicle power systems, factory automation equipment, and electric vehicle control units.
