Zener diode is a particular component used for voltage regulation, in which current can flow in either direction, but when the voltage reaches a certain level, it breaks down, allowing reverse current to flow. The ACZRC5348B-G is specifically designed for fast switching operations and high power dissipation. It has a low profile and a leadless form factor, which makes it ideal for applications where space and weight saving is important.The ACZRC5348B-G is well suited for high frequency power supplying circuits, such as in high frequency switching regulators, DC/DC converters and uninterruptible power supplies. It can also be used in circuit protection applications and other applications where a high frequency wide range of breakdown voltages are needed. The ACZRC5348B-G is a single Zener diode that is rated for a breakdown voltage of 5.3 volts and a 0.5-watt power dissipation. The “G” designates the maximum continuous enclosure temperature of the device, which is rated at 75°C. It consists of a single crystal silicon wafer with aluminum coating bonded to an alumina/metal composite substrate. The substrate is then connected to a bottom plate with an aluminum alloy pad and a couple of etched leadframes. The bottom plate ensures excellent thermal conduction.The ACZRC5348B-G is designed to operate in the frequency range of 50kHz to 3MHz, with a maximum reverse surge at a breakdown voltage of 5.3V, up to a peak of 3 watts. The reverse leakage current of the device is only 0.3mA at a breakdown voltage of 5.3V, which is a very low value and makes it suitable for low power applications. The device also provides a very low capacitance of only 0.7pF typical at the breakdown voltage of 5.3V, which makes it ideal for high frequency switching applications.The ACZRC5348B-G Zener diode works on the principle of excess voltage breakdown. When a DC voltage is applied to the device, it behaves as a normal diode – allowing only current in one direction (forward). However, if a reverse voltage greater than the threshold voltage is applied to it, the diode’s P-N junction will break down, allowing reverse current to flow. The voltage at which this occurs is known as the “breakdown” or “zener” voltage. The ACZRC5348B-G has a breakdown voltage of 5.3V, making it well suited for high frequency switching applications. The ACZRC5348B-G Zener diode is available in 2 sizes – SOD-323 and SOD-607 packages. Both packages have similar dimensions, but the SOD-323 package is designed with a smaller package height, allowing it to be used in space-constrained applications. With its combination of high power dissipation and fast switching performance, the ACZRC5348B-G is an ideal solution for a wide range of high frequency switching applications.
