Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC)
The AD5557CRUZ is an ultra-precise, true differential DAC that provides excellent linearity, accuracy, and low noise. This unbuffered voltage-output DAC has an integrated SPI/I2C-compatible interface for configuring and controlling all of its features and requires a single, low-voltage (1.7V to 5.5V) power supply. The AD5557CRUZ provides 12-bit, 14-bit and 14-bit ±1 LSB differential nonlinearity (DNL) specifications over temperature.
Application field
The AD5557CRUZ is a complete solution for digital-to-analog conversion applications. It is designed to facilitate easy interfacing to digital processors, providing a precision, low noise source of signals for control and measurement applications where high fidelity is required. It is also suitable for various applications including motor-control systems, robotic positioning systems, and servo systems, as well as system monitoring and communications applications.
In addition, the AD5557CRUZ is ideal for current-sensing applications where voltage control is required. Working principle
The AD5557CRUZ is a precision digital-to-analog converter that utilizes a single 12-bit, 14-bit or 14-bit ±1 LSB DNL reference source with a resolution of 14 or 16-bit resolution. It operates from a single supply voltage between 1.7V and 5.5V and provides a unipolar or bipolar output voltage range between 0V and the supply voltage with an accuracy of up to ±0.08%.
The AD5557CRUZ operates from an SPI/I2C-compatible interface and can be programmed accurately to provide a voltage output for the desired application. The input digital word is converted into an analog signal by the DAC. After the digital word is loaded, the DAC digitally interpolates the values between the two successive words and smoothly transitions to the new value (ramp mode) without any glitches or drop out.
The DAC architecture comprises a 256-level programmable resistor network and an integral voltage reference. The programmable resistor network enables a wide range of output voltage settings and voltage outputs over temperature. The integral voltage reference of the DAC ensures tight tolerance and high accuracy regardless of the outside temperature variations.
The AD5557CRUZ also features a three-taps calibration register (including an offset register) that allows the user to adjust the gain and offset parameters of the DAC for better linearity and accuracy. In addition, the DAC is protected from addressing errors and overrun conditions.
