A key component of ADC systems is the Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) which converts analog signals into digital data. The AD7495BRM-REEL is an 8-bit, low-power Linear CMOS Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) from Analog Devices.

The AD7495BRM-REEL working principle is based on a charge redistribution architecture. When compared to the other ADC’s, the charge redistribution architecture is idea for reducing power consumption because of its simple circuitry, which generates accurate results with fewer components and hence less power consumption. The Analog to Digital Conversion (ADC) process involves a successive approximation algorithm which samples an analog input voltage through a capacitor. The successive approximation algorithm enables the ADC to capture transient signals as it quickly and accurately records each sampling.

The AD7495BRM-REEL is powered by a 5V voltage supply, and it consumes only 250mW when operated at the full task. It provides an 8-bit digital output with a resolution of 0.0015V (1.5mV). The converter also features a wide input range operation and programmable gain amplifier, internal temperature sensor, and on-chip temperature sensor. The conversion process starts with a sampling phase, during which the analog input is captured and acquired. The sampled signal is then processed by the successive approximation register and the result is delivered as a 8-bit digital output.
