AD7607BSTZ is a mixed-signal, 12-bit, high-speed, voltage-to-digital converter (ADC) designed for use in data acquisition systems. The device is the latest in a series of precision ADCs that can deliver speeds up to 100 MSPS (million samples per second). It is designed for applications such as industrial instrumentation, communications, medical imaging and instrumentation, robotics and automotive engine management.This high-speed, precision ADC features a differential, simultaneous-sampling architecture that delivers a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and low power consumption. It offers multiple inputs and outputs that provide a wide dynamic range and excellent signal linearity.The AD7607BSTZ employs on-chip signal processing circuitry to convert analog input signals into accurate digital representations. Its signal processing architecture consists of a low-noise, wide-frequency-bandwidth input stage, a multi-stage track-and-hold amplifier, and a successive approximation register (SAR) converter. The input stage is a high-speed, low-noise TIA (trans-impedance amplifier) with wide dynamic range and excellent linearity, key features for this type of converter.The track-and-hold (T/H) amplifier is designed to accurately sample and hold the incoming analog signal in order to convert it into a high-resolution digital representation. The T/H consists of two operational amplifier blocks, one for tracking the changing voltage of the incoming signal and the other for keeping the sampled voltage constant for a short period of time. This short “hold” period is then used by the analog-to-digital conversion circuits to accurately and rapidly convert the analog voltage into an equivalent digital code.The SAR ADC portion of the AD7607BSTZ is a multi-bit, flash converter that uses a sample-and-compare technique. The incoming analog signal is compared to a sequence of voltage values, and the closest step is then selected and sent out as the final output code.The AD7607BSTZ also features an optional built-in reference and calibration circuitry to calibrate the converter for maximum accuracy, as well as a power down circuit that can quickly shut down the device when not in use. Furthermore, the device is designed to operate from a single 3.3 V supply and is housed in a 6-pin SOIC package.In summary, the AD7607BSTZ is a high-resolution, high-speed ADC that is well suited for a wide range of data acquisition applications.
