PMIC - V/F and F/V Converters
The AD7740YRMZ integrated circuit (IC) is a voltage to frequency (V/F) and frequency to voltage (F/V) converter. The AD7740YRMZ is an easy-to-use, two-stage conversion solution for converting analog voltages and frequencies. This product is suitable for voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) applications with fast switching times and low power consumption. The AD7740YRMZ has been designed to simplify the design of voltage to frequency and frequency to voltage converters by eliminating the tedious task of tuning both stages of the converter and providing a user-friendly interface.The V/F conversion stage of the AD7740YRMZ uses a high-speed, bipolar operational amplifier circuit that converts the input voltage into a linear voltage-controlled oscillator. The frequency generated by the oscillator is the product of voltage times capacitance (V·C). This technique eliminates the need for resistor-capacitor (RC) values to be adjusted when changing the input voltage. The capacitance is typically implemented using an external capacitor with a value of up to 10 nF.The F/V conversion stage of the IC is composed of a triangular wave generator, a sample and hold circuit, and a voltage to digital converter (V/D) circuit. The triangular wave generator is used to generate a reference signal for the F/V conversion stage. The sample and hold circuit is used to sample the input frequency and convert it into a voltage. This voltage is then converted into a digital value using the V/D circuitry.The AD7740YRMZ provides two user-friendly interface options. The first is a three-terminal serial digital interface, and the second is a four-terminal parallel digital interface. The output of the IC can be either frequency (FOUT) or digital code (COUT).The AD7740YRMZ is available in a flexible 32-pin thin Shrink Small Outline Package (TSOP).
