Data Acquisition, comprised of Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs), are critical components in modern computing systems. ADCs convert continuous analog signals into digital form in order to accurately capture important data. The AD7780BRUZ is an ADC developed by Analog Devices. This device combines low power, 12-bit performance and a DC accuracy appropriate for high performance applications into a 24-pin, SSOP package. The AD7780BRUZ offers a maximum sampling rate of 2.048 MHz, a 12-bit conversion, and a direct-I/O machine-readable format. This device is also capable of being directly interfaced with microcontrollers and can easily be used with a range of microprocessor families. Additionally, the device can be powered from a single 3V Lithium Ion battery and is designed to deliver a sampling rate of 2MHz without compromising power or accuracy.The working principle of the AD7780BRUZ is to use a successive approximation register (SAR) to generate a 12-bit value. The SAR uses an iterative procedure to compare an analog input voltage to an internal reference voltage. This procedure is known as successive approximation because it is a method of successively reducing the error between the two voltages until the desired conversion is complete. The device is fast and accurate with a wide range of input sequences. It has a built-in temperature sensor which allows for dynamic offset compensation and temperature monitoring.
