Analog multiplication and division operations play important role in various signal conditioning operations in industrial and consumer applications such as noise cancelling, signal filtering, and spectral analysis.

The AD835AR is a high precision analog multiplier/divider IC designed to preform accurate and repeatable multiplication and division operations inboth low and high frequency applications. This integrated circuit provides excellent linearity, low distortion, fast settling time and low noise.

Application Field of AD835AR

The AD835AR is a highly reliable linear analog multiplier/divider suitable for a wide range of applications in instrumentation and communication systems. This device can be used in high precision analog multiplier applications such as automatic gain control, polarimeter servo-amplifier, automatic frequency control, active filters, quadrature modulators, harmonic multipliers/phase shifters and high gain amplifiers. Besides, it can also be employed in applications that require linear analog multiplexers/demultiplexers, analog and RF signals modulation, pulse-width modulators, differential gain and balancing circuit, transient analysis, and frequency shifters.

Working Principle of AD835AR

The AD835AR contains two active multipliers, controlled by the select logic and inputs provided. It is suitable for both multiplying and dividing operation. The select logic inputs allows the user to select the required operation of multiplication or division. The multiplication operation can be realized using two of the five input signals (I1 to I5) and the multiplication ratio can be varied by the controlling the two selected signals. The multiplication ratio is given by the formula: M = (I2/I1)*(I3/I4). The division operation is realized using a single input signal and the division ratio is given by the formula: D = (I1/I2).

The multiplier inputs are internally connected to one of the two main active multiplier circuits. Three of the five input pins together with the select logic pins determines the operation mode of the IC ( multiplication or division).The AD835AR provides high linearity and fast settling times over a wide frequency range. The thermal noise of the device also is low. High accuracy and repeatability is attained through the use of internal reference.The outputs of the AD835AR are available in balanced (differential) and single ended(single) configuration.

The balanced output configuration allows to increase the performance of the circuit. Non-inverting and inverting single-ended outputs provide flexibility in interconnecting the device in different types of applications and reduces the external wiring complexity. The single-ended output provides access to driving single input devices.
