AD9516-3BCPZ Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers
The AD9516-3BCPZ is a low-jitter, programmable clock generator designed to efficiently support various clock and timing requirements in the systems including: communication, industrial, media, and computer/storage. It has a fractional-N and integer-N PLLs and frequency synthesis blocks, a voltage-controlled crystal oscillator, and two clock distribution blocks for creating and distributing multiple low-skew clock networks.
The AD9516-3BCPZ is a one-time programmable device, allowing it to be programmed via external command per the user’s requirements. It is also capable of selecting from 4 different reference clocks from 5 MHz up to 105 MHz, each of which is capable of being scaled down to 2, 4, 8 or 16 MHz for certain applications.
Application Field
The AD9516-3BCPZ works well in multiple applications, such as computer systems and networking, including mail servers, switches, routers, and routers. It is also suitable for industrial control systems, like military and aerospace, industrial automation, and transportation.

Working Principle
The AD9516-3BCPZ incorporates a PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) and a programmable frequency synthesizer, as well as multiple clock distribution blocks. The PLL enables the device to perform frequency synthesis, phase and frequency comparison and modulation, phase shifting and phase locked loop control. The frequency synthesizer allows for a large amount of flexibility when creating output clocks from one of the selectable reference clock frequencies, allowing the user to customize the generated output frequency via the programming data supplied to the device.
The AD9516-3BCPZ is designed to output clock signals up to 160 MHz, depending upon the reference clock and programming data supplied by the user. All of the outputs have low jitter, typically less than 0.3 psrms, to meet the stringent requirements of today's high-speed digital systems.
The device is designed to be low-power with a power consumption of less than 800 mW. It is designed to be operated in both the industrial (-40°C to +85°C) and commercial temperature ranges.
