AD9516-4BCPZ-REEL7 is a clock/timing device belonging to the Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers category. This clock/timing device uses phase-locked-loop (PLL) technology with an integrated voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) to help users synthesize a precise low frequency output based on precise high frequency reference clock input.The high frequency reference clock is used to feed a frequency divider (FDIV) network inside the PLL. This FDIV network allows multiple output frequency ranges to be obtained from the single reference clock source through divide-by-integer multiplication operations. This operation is known as frequency synthesis. The frequency multiplication factor is determined by the frequency divider (FDIV) state, which can be controlled through the use of control registers.The AD9516-4BCPZ-REEL7 has three outputs. One output is a low frequency generated by a VCO or an exterior VCO of the user’s choice. The other two outputs provide the user with locked multiple frequencies of the basic reference clock frequency, supplied with up to 10.3dBm maximum output power.The working principle of the AD9516-4BCPZ-REEL7 is based on the principles of negative-feedback loop control, where an output frequency of the device is compared to an external reference input frequency. The device employes proportional-integral (PI) feedback control to keep the VCO output in exact synchronisation with the external reference. This configuration is known as the PLL. The combination of the VCO and the PLL allows for a precise output frequency to be synthesised from the input reference.This clock/timing device can be used for applications in radio-frequency (RF) communication, telecommunications, medical devices, printing, imaging, and sensing instruments, as well as other devices requiring high accuracy frequency control.The device provides output frequencies ranging from 126Hz to 4KHz, and 6 to 1440Mhz. It also provides higher output frequencies and voltages, as well as programmable start-up and shut-down mechanisms, enabling users to save power when the device is on stand-by mode. Additionally, the device provides two independent LVDS differential level outputs, providing a wide variety of output levels for both low and high power applications.
