Data Acquisition - Analog to Digital Converters (ADC)

The ADC0848BCVX/NOPB is an intelligent 8-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter that offers total system reliability, accuracy and performance. This device is intended for high precision applications where wide input range, accuracy, resolution and low power consumption are critical. This device is suitable for use in a wide variety of data acquisition applications, including consumer and automotive applications.This converter’s architecture offers numerous features including: auto zero correction, fixed and programmable gain selection, and a low power standby mode. The ADC0848BCVX/NOPB can operate from a single +5V supply, making it an ideal solution for applications that require low-power operation.The ADC0848BCVX/NOPB contains seven separate analog-to-digital cells that are connected together by a shift register. The device has two sets of inputs; the data input (DI) and the reference input (RI). The input voltage is applied to the DI and the reference voltage is applied to the RI. The device converts the analog signal to a digital format depending on the relationship between the voltage applied to the DI and the reference voltage.When the conversion is initiated, the ADC0848BCVX/NOPB performs an automatic offset correction to remove any DC offset that may be present in the input signal. Thisoffset correction is done by automatically storing the offset voltage into the device’s internal Nonvolatile Memory (NVM) and subtracting this offset from the incoming signal.The ADC0848BCVX/NOPB contains a programmable gain amplifier that multiplies the incoming analog signal by a selectable gain. The gain is programmed by writing the desired setting to the device’s internal NVM. Once the gain is programmed, it can be retrieved and used for each successive sample.The device also contains a low-power standby feature which allows the user to place the device into a low power mode in which all analog circuitry is turned off and a very low current is consumed. This feature is useful for applications that require minimal power consumption.The ADC0848BCVX/NOPB’s architecture allows the user to select from a variety of input ranges and resolutions. The device is capable of accepting input signals between -10V and +10V with a resolution of 8-bits. The device can also accept input signals between -5V and +5V and resolutions of 10, 12 and 14-bits.In summary, the ADC0848BCVX/NOPB is a highly intelligent and reliable Analog-to-Digital Converter.
