ADF4111BCPZ is an integrated frequency synthesizer which is suitable for many applications that require a wide range of frequency and high synthesis accuracy. It uses a combination of Digital Frequency Synthesis (DFS) and Fast Frequency Hopping (FFH) to generate both analog and digital programmable frequencies up to 20 GHz. It is typically used in RF applications such as wireless communications, satellite communications, and WLAN.
The ADF4111BCPZ contains two clock synthesis circuits, a fractional-N phase-locked loop (PLL) and an integer-N PLL. These two clocks can be linked to achieve very low phase noise and jitter performances. The fractional-N PLL has an adjustable output frequency range from 5 kHz to 13 GHz while the integer-N PLL has an adjustable output frequency range from 18 to 20 GHz. The PLLs also have an internal VCO with a maximum frequency of 1.5 GHz.
The ADF4111BCPZ has the function of fast frequency hopping that enables fast frequency hopping up to 30 µs across the frequency range. Fast frequency hopping helps to reduce interference in wireless systems and can be used to implement code division multiple access (CDMA) systems.
To control both integral-N and fractional-N synthesizers, an integrated Digital Frequency Synthesis (DFS) engine can generate up to 32 different frequencies from a single chip using a single crystal oscillator and an internal register file. The DFS engine can also be programmed to generate arbitrary frequency patterns up to 32 GHz that can be used for establishing fast frequency hopping baseband modulations. The chip also has an integrated low-noise amplifier to amplify the desired frequency for improved overall system performance.
In addition, the ADF4111BCPZ has an integrated voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) that helps to extend the frequency range up to 20 GHz and allows for a wider range of output frequencies.
