PTC Resettable Fuses AHRF700

PTC Resettable Fuses, also known as polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) fuses, are a special type of self-resetting fuses that are used to protect circuits from overcurrent or short-circuit faults.  Unlike traditional circuit breakers, which must be manually reset after a fault is resolved, PTC Resettable Fuses provide an automatic protection. These fuses contain a component, most commonly made of polymeric material, which has an increasing resistance as current through it rises.  When a circuit is subjected to an excessive current flow, the component\'s resistance rises abruptly, thus limiting the current in the circuit and causing the temperature of the PTC Resettable Fuse to rise.  If the excessive current persists, the temperature will eventually rise to the melting point of the PTC, which will act as a "trip" to break the circuit and disconnect the current. After the current is disconnected, the PTC will cool down and will resume its previous resistance level.

AHRF700 Application Field

The AHRF700, manufactured by ETS-Lindgren, is widely used in high current, short circuit applications. It is well suited for use in consumer electronic systems, automotive applications, battery packs, industrial applications, and power supplies. Compared to conventional PTCs, the AHRF700 has higher current capability combined with extremely reliable performance under harsh environmental conditions. Working Principle

The AHRF700 has a resettable fuse type construction which is made up of a bi-metal element and a polymer element. The bi-metal element acts as a temperature counter-balance and helps to limit the rise in temperature of the PTC. The polymer PTC element is made of a positively temperature coefficient (PTC) polymer, which has a positive temperature-resistance relationship. When excessive current flows through the PTC, the temperature of the element rises and its resistance increases. This increase in resistance causes the current through the circuit to be reduced to a safe level and tripping the circuit. When the temperature of the PTC decreases, its resistance returns to its starting level and the circuit is reset.

The AHRF700 has a wide operating range, up to 700V. Its fast response time enables it to quickly detect and limit excessive current and its maximum current rating is greater than that of traditional fuses and circuit breakers. In addition to its efficient performance, the AHRF700 is capable of high temperature operation and has proven to be reliable under a wide range of environmental conditions.
