Fixed inductors are passive components that store energy in the form of electric current. They work in a similar manner to transformers, but the energy does not transfer between different circuits. This type of inductor is used to add capacitance or increase the effective inductance of a circuit. AISC-1206-33NJ-T is one type of inductor material.

AISC-1206-33NJ-T is a three-layer series multi-loop inductor made from nickel-zinc ferrite material. It has a size of 1206L×2.2mm×1.9mm as it is referred to as a 1206 package. It consists of three layers of soft magnetic material, namely Ni-Zn ferrite, metal substrate and top layer. The bottom layer consists of Ni-Zn ferrite which has high magnetic permeability and gives the inductor its basic magnetic properties. The middle layer of the inductor is the metal substrate which acts as a shield and helps reduce noise and increase mechanical stability. Finally, the top layer of the inductor is made from Ni-Zn ferrite which gives the inductor its electrical properties and ensures a good electrical insulation of the interface.

AISC-1206-33NJ-T is mainly used in power supplies and converter applications. Its application field includes DC-DC converters, switched-mode power supplies, high-frequency dc-dc converters, and other magnetic applications. The inductor is designed for use in low current circuits up to 3.3 Amps. It provides a low DCR at 0.38 Ohms and its inductance is 33nH with a tolerance ±20%. The inductor is RoHS compliant and is widely used in a variety of industries.

The working principle of this type of inductor is based on the principles of electromagnetic field, Faraday’s Law of induction and Lenz\'s Law. According to Faraday’s Law of induction, when the magnetic field around any conductor changes, it induces an electromotive force, or voltage, in the conductor. The changing magnetic field can be created by either a changing current, or a changing magnetization. Lenz\'s Law states that when a current-carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, the induced current will oppose the change that produced it. Series multi-loop inductors are composed of multiple ‘loops’ of wire, wrapped around a ferrite core, with the two ends of each loop connected in series to form a coil. When a voltage is applied to this loop of coils, it will generate an alternating magnetic field in the core, which will induce an electromotive force in the internal wire of the coil. This induced electromotive force is opposite in direction to the source voltage, and thus leads to a reluctance of current flow, i.e. “Self-Inductance”. This inductance can be adjust by changing the number of the loops and the ferrite core material.
