RF Mixers are a type of component that are commonly used in RF and microwave applications. In operation, the AK1572 will receive an input signal through its input port and generate a signal at its Mixer Output port which is the result of the differential amplification of the Local Oscillator signal and input signal. The output of this process will have an Intermediate Frequency (IF) which is the difference between the input signal frequency and the LO signal frequency. The IF signal will then be fed into further RF signal processing stages.

The AK1572 also has the ability to provide both down-conversion and up-conversion. When operating in up-conversion mode, the Input port is used to supply the signal that will be converted down to the LO frequency at the Mixer Output port. For down-conversion, the Input port is used to supply the Local Oscillator signal and the Mixer Output port is used to provide the down-converted signal with a frequency that is the difference between the LO signal frequency and the Input port frequency.

The AK1572’s wideband capabilities make it ideal for use in a variety of applications. In 5G cellular base stations, the device can be used for frequency conversion of the signals sent and received by the base station. In satellite communications, the AK1572 can convert the microwave signals typically used in satellite communications down to more easily processed lower frequency signals. In radio and television broadcasts, the AK1572 can be used to mix two high frequency signals together to generate the required audio and video carrying signals.
