AK1573B

The AK1573B is a highly integrated frequency synthesis Multi-System Clock Generator. It is capable of generating 8.19MHz, 22.5792MHz and 24.576MHz frequency clocks from a 24.576MHz input while also providing a Spread-Spectrum (SS) clock output.

This device is used in applications such as audio-visual (AV) equipment, communication base stations, and data processing systems, where a multi-clock source solution is required. AK1573B includes a buffered Reference Clock Input ( REFCLK ) and also provides a clock generator oscillator set to a default frequency (F OSC).

The AK1573B consists of a phase-locked loop (PLL) circuit, a switching frequency divider, clock mux, and an oscillator frequency divider for the generation of the 8.19MHz, 22.5792MHz, and 24.5792MHz reference clocks, and a clock regulating and stabilizing unit for the SS clock output.

The AK1573B works by first using a PLL circuit that is driven by the External Reference Clock (REFCLK) which is then used to divide the input clock frequency in order to generate the other output clocks. The REFCLK is then fed into a clock mux and the desired clock output is selected by the MI_SELECT[2:0] pins. The AK1573B is then configured by the Analog Control Interface ( ACI ) for output selection, clock muxing, Spread-Spectrum frequency modulation, and power management. The device provides both analog and digital pins that are used to configure the different functions.

The AK1573B’s power management system, which is based on the external ACI control signals, helps to ensure that the device operates at the lowest power possible while still meeting the required performance. The power-down function results in a power savings of up to 80%.
