AK8132A

The AK8132A is a general purpose bidirectional wideband protection device designed to protect equipment from damage due to transient voltage caused by Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) and Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI). Working Principle

The AK8132A works by detecting a sharp rise in voltage (ESD or EMI) and then quickly switching all of its ESD protection diodes on. This creates a low impedance path to ground which acts as a safety valve and prevents further ESD or EMI pulses from damaging the protected equipment. The TVS diode array works by clamping the voltage to an acceptable range in order to protect the circuit. The AK8132A also supports hot-swap applications since it does not require an external current limiting resistor and the transient clamping voltage can be preset in-situ using a trim potentiometer.
