The AK93C45CU is a low-cost serial EEPROM memory that is commonly used in a variety of applications. The AK93C45CU is a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) device with a 1K x 8-bit (8Kbit) capacity. It is available in a variety of package configurations, including PLCC and SOIC. The AK93C45CU features an SPI serial interface, write-protect pin, and two address pins which enable the device to be addressed up to eight times the basic memory size of 1K bits. This makes it an ideal memory device for applications that require high-density, low-cost storage.

The AK93C45CU works on a basic principle. When a command is sent over the serial data bus, it is interpreted by the EEPROM and it will perform an operation as specified. There are six commands that can be sent over the serial data bus; Read, Write, Increment, Decrement, Poll and Write Protection. Each of these commands are interpreted and acted upon by the ARM controller core integrated within the AK93C45CU device.
In order to write data to the device, a write command must be issued. This command will be decoded and the data will be written sequentially to the internal memory of the device. To read data from the device, a read command must be issued, and the data will be read from the specified address. The device will continue to read from the address specified until the read command is terminated. Additionally, the Poll command can be used to check the status of the internal registers and flags of the device, enabling the user to read the device’s status without having to send a read command.
The AK93C45CU is an excellent memory device for a variety of applications. It is a low-cost, low-power device that features a fast read access time, wide operating temperature range, embedded error-code correction system, and two-layer shielding that isolates the SPI signals, providing greater signal integrity. The device can be commanded to UP/DOWN or erase its own memory via the serial data bus and can be addressed up to eight times the basic memory size of 1K bits.
